Southern Plantation Home

Plantation homes in the south have always held a special interest for me. This “Photograph of the Week,” I captured while taking photos along the Mississippi last year just before the oil spill at Venice, LA. This is actually the back side of the Nottoway Plantation House, located at White Castle, LA between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just a few hundred feet from a huge dike that holds back the flood waters of the Mississippi River. This home was completed in 1859 for the John Hampton Randolph family.  It contains 53,000 square feet and was listed on the National Register of Historic...

Moon Light Tide

The early evening moon glimmers on the sea and it highlights the incoming tide on the beach and the rocks. You can even see some of the light reflecting off the moisture on the sand. A time to take a romantic walk along the beach with your special someone. You can almost smell the sea water in the air. Share this:

Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves

This Photo of the Week is an autumn scene of a close up of multicolored eaves on a tree. The main sunlight is coming through the trees and gives almost a transparent look to the colorful leaves. The dark leaves in the background and the greenish berries on the tree provide a very colorful contrast in colors. This was captured on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC the first week of October. The color on the leaves were not at its fullest. I  am not sure if the leaves were on a tree or a very large shrub. It did make a very color scene along the roadside. Share this:...

Street Orchestra

The Photo of the Week is another example of the life in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Captured on our last visit there this winter, it provides an enthusiastic view of not only the musicians but also the visitors who gather around whenever a musical group springs up and starts to play in the street. Take a good look at the activities of all the observers. Can you spot yourself there? The question is, “Would you like to be there?”  This the real heart of the French Quarter. There are at least three individuals taking photographs of the scene. Can you find them? The real action is...

Doorways of The French Quarter

The Photo of The Week is one of many photographs I have taken in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the past 18 months.  It is typical of the scenes you see in this city that never sleeps….especially in the French Quarter.  There is music everywhere on the streets. Titled, “Doggone Good Music,” it is one of 21 which will be included in my upcoming exhibit, “Doorways of The French Quarter.”    The exhibit will be held at the WUWF public broadcast radio station on the campus of University of West Florida in Pensacola. The exhibit starts on October Monday, Oct 3,...

Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse.

Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse.

This is probably one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. But the real beauty of this area in Nova Scotia is all the old fishing buildings that surround this very quiet cove. The scene changes every time you turn your head in a different direction. This  scene is one of about 15 that I took of the lighthouse, but I liked it the best because of the huge rocks that provide a frame.
