This week “photo of the week” shows the power of black and white over color, or so I think.  This is the doorway to Mission San Juan in   in San Antonio, TX.

Black and  white brings out a lot detail that is not visible to the naked eye in color…or in a color photograph, While the color photo is interesting, it does not have the impact of the black and white.

Originally founded in 1716 in eastern Texas, Mission San Juan was transferred in 1731 to its present location. In 1756, the stone church, a friary, and a granary were completed. A larger church was begun, but was abandoned when half complete, the result of population decline.

You can see the worn stones in the walkway entrance to the church.  Some people have reported seeing the ghost of an Indian man in the church. This same spirit has been seen at other San Antonio mission sites. Photographs taken in January 2011.
