Black & White or Color?

Taking photographs in shade or under tent canopies  sometimes present problems even if you have cameras that set themselves automatically.  This scene of a basket weaver is a good point of reference. It was 10 a.m. and this basket weaver was one among several crafts booths that had been setup for a local festival. This was taken in the summer of 2011 at Scherburne, Nova Scotia. It was a sunny day but the man was working under a canopy but there was still a fair amount of light on the scene. I was intrigued by the shadows in his shirt and the basket he was weaving. Black & White & Color Sunset

This photo of the week is a bit different…it is black & white and color photograph of a  shrimp boat in harbor during a sunset on Florida’s gulf coast.  With the brilliant sunset in the background the boat at harbor turns out in black and white because there is no sun shining on it.  It is also receiving reflections of the dark evening water. Share this:...

What Story Does Your Photograph Tell?

This photograph of an abandoned railroad passenger car sits on an unused siding in Prairie du Chien, WI. It was captured while i was taking photographs of the Mississippi River. The railroad siding and the old grain elevator behind it actually tell two stories. The first one is the demise of the passenger train service in this country. At one time there were man passenger trains going along both sides of the Mississippi River each...

Merry Christmas

May The Peace of The Christmas Season be with with you throughout the year. Merry Christmas!   About the photograph: (Taken in March, 2009) St. Nicholas Cathedral (Chram sv. Mikulase) from the Lesser Quarter in Prague has put its name into Czech and European Baroque era and is now Prague number one church of this kind. Its history is linked to Czech re-catholisation process that followed the defeat of the Hussites in the Battle of the White Mountain (1620). The beginnings of the imposing Cathedral that we see today go back to the year 1283, when the place of worship started its...
