A large ocean freighter crosses the Columbia River between Astoria, OR and Megler, WA. The old piers in the foreground, inhabited by hundred of seagulls, are on the Astoria side. The Astoria-Megler Bridge in the background, constructed in 1962-1966, was once dubbed “the bridge to nowhere.” It is the longest “continuous truss” bridge in the world. This photograph was taken in 2003.
