Sign Painter

This Missouri “sign Painter” captures the photo of the week spotlight. Many of the smaller river towns along the Mississippi have used the sides of their old buildings for very neat murals. Louisana, MO is one of the cities. I do not know how many murals they have in the city, three our four at least. This was one I captured this past autumn while taking photographs long the Mississippi. It is a good thing the painter is part of the mural or he would be heading for quite a tumble. Maybe he is taking a spill as the frog is leaping to get out of his way. Note the old looking street light...

Watchout For the Background

Posted by admin on Feb 27, 2009 in Creative Photography Blog | 0 comments

What you see in the in your viewfinder is what is going to end up in your photograph…and probably a bit more.  Sometimes that is good and sometimes that is bad.  You might end up getting things in your photograph that you really “saw” in your viewfinder but suddenly they are there when you look at the print. It is cheaper to buy a precut mat..say for an 8×10 cutout.or a 4×6 or 5×7 cutout and let that me the deciding final format of our photograph. If we are shooting a...

The Fourth Street Elevator in Dubuque, IA is said to be the shortest and steepest railroad in the world. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The”funicular” as it is called is 296 feet long, with a vertical elevation of 189 feet. (That is steep.) The two cars start at opposite ends, passing each other at the mid-point of the elevator. The two cars counterbalance each other, drawing motive power from an engine in the station house at the top of the hill. The original one was built in 1892. It has been rebuilt after three fires. This one was renovated in l977....

Coastal Bridge

This peaceful scene of a coastal bridge going from the mainland to a barrier coast is seen throughout the Florida coastal area. This scene was captured one beautiful autumn afternoon while the sun was bright and everything was right with the world. This bridge is between Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach, Florida. Notice the gulls on the sandbar. Share this:...
